Ibanez JS 100 BK

+
I own my JS100 for more than 12 years. I know this instrument like I know my self - just don't need another. Sometime ago I changed the bridge pickup to DiMarzio© Fred to have more middles, and that is all I want from this guitar. Well, if I was rich, I would probably buy some more guitars, but I think I wouldn't leave this one. This instrument has passed a great tests - all these years my students are playing on it! Sometimes this is a real stress test, believe me:-)

Nothing real is perfect.
In this case, I think one of the shortcomings is the FloydRose© system - LoTRS Ibanez model. Actually not bad, but I got problems with the 3th string - tunes higher after using the bar in up direction, and I need to push it down to restore the tuning.

Boss GT-3

+
The COSM technology in this product for me exceeds all the competitors. It is almost perfect in most cases, especially in low-middle gain applications. It reacts on my picking like a real high class tube amp at reasonable high volume.
The Pickup and Accoustic simulations are really amazing.
Rock-solid construction and clever part positioning. Once I spash it with water, and when I opened it, there was no water inside - there is something like a nest below each pedal and knob which keeps the fluids far from the sensitive elements! However, don't experiment:)
This is the best unit in the range I know.
...and... thank you, Fred:)

If you try to plug this unit in a real amplifer and turn off the Simulator, you will be disapointed. Or at least I was. Any set of Boss stomp pedals will sound better, despite you were told there is an analog part in GT-3.

Marshall JMP-1

+
Well, I am not a Marshall fen. But this unit is sounding very good, if not perfect for its class! I used it plugged in my computer via speaker simulator outs. At first it sounded pure to me, but after applying some reverb adn delay - waw! This is "the real thing", ya know! Great response on picking, the two gain levels can produce anything from fuzz and crunge to heavy metal. A good set of connections on the back.
-
Hmm, I don't think there are any. Actually, this is the best I know in this class. The only thing that I can say - the speaker simulator outs are not volume controled by the knob, just from the internal settings. This is somehow strange to me...

Line6 POD 2

+
Very interestinq unit with unique tone and design! If you are searching for Mesa Boogie-like sound plugged directly in your computer, don't search anymore! Good set of cabinets and amps to choose from. Line6 are pioners in researching amp emulation. POD 2 is 100% digital - and I mean 100%! There is no analog part in it - from the 24 bit ADC to the DAC the sound is all the way in digital domain. Actualy, the heart of the unit is a software - it does all the emulation jobs.
The construction looks very stable.

The unit fails in low-middle gain and clean applications. It doesnt react good on my picking if the gain is not pushed high enough. The knobs are looking good, but it is a real nightmare to work with it! If you switch from one bank to another, you don't know what is changed and if you turn a knob, your sound is gone! The solution is to connect your POD 2 with the computer and use the provided software - Line6 Edit. This makes the life much easier!
There are no foot pedals with the unit - you will need to make a separate purshase, not cheap!
